I started writing the outline for my next book yesterday. I know what you’re thinking: I’m insane. And while I am, I promise in this instance I’m not. I just finished Prince of this World, and yes, that one is my priority, but I need something to keep the creative juices flowing. I’m best when I’m writing fiction, so I wanted another outlet to stay in practice as I try seeing Prince of this World through to the next step. So, while I start navigating my foray into the world of publishing, this book will keep me occupied on a far more casual and leisurely basis. And while I love Michael and Cassie and Andrew and Jason, I’ve spent so much time with them this last year that I’m ready to kill them all off out of spite. We need a breather.
I don’t know much about my next novel, it’s still in the early stages of development. I know that it’s a love story of the most fucked up kind (but then again, what kind of love story isn’t?). It’s about beautiful people doing ugly things to one another in the vein of Cruel Intentions meets Natural Born Killers, and it’s called “Monstrosity: The Story of Us.” Title and character names are the things I come up with first, the things I need to begin, but for some reason I’m stumped on the names for these characters. I expect I’ll have an easier time naming my children than I will my protagonists. Here’s the shortlist of front running names, and I welcome any ideas anyone might have! Obviously I’m debating between very old fashioned/traditional names, and very weird/thematically relevant ones.
- Fiona (yes.)
- Seraphine (misspelling is intentional)
- Caligula (yes.)
